Dreams of the Weary

Novel forthcoming with Palimpsest Press. Fall 2027.

From the moment her daughter Grace is born with a facial difference, Louise Baillie knows she will spend the rest of her life protecting her child. Not only from stares and judgments, but doctors who want to put her in a sanitorium and a past that returns to threaten the life she has built as a single mother.

When fourteen-year-old Grace runs away to the circus in 1959, she hopes to find her own way, while giving her mother and her new husband a chance to build their own life. But after her boyfriend Grégoire, The Belgian Giant, decides to go to university to build them a better future, Grace feels abandoned to a life she’s not sure she wants without him.

With protestors threatening the existence of sideshow performers and an horrific truth hiding behind closed doors, neither Louise nor Grace could predict how things would take a turn. Timelines collide in a climax of revelation, exposing truths hiding behind closed doors, while Grace, with the help of her new sideshow family, must decide what they’re willing to do to expose the evil lurking beneath the veil of a so-called polite society. How can one determine their own happiness when society has carved their life’s path from pity, indifference or far worse?
